Our investment philosophy is grounded in the core belief that the integration of ESG factors into a disciplined, research-driven investment process leads to better-informed investment decisions and better risk-adjusted returns through an economic cycle.
Building on our proprietary data and research, we identify companies that generate a competitive advantage through sound business practices, efficiency improvements, and the creation of new solutions for the myriad challenges facing society over the coming decades.
Taking a long-term investment perspective, we analyze companies’ business models, market positioning and growth potential, and evaluate their financial performance and valuation. Based on this fundamental assessment, we seek to uncover attractive investment opportunities and implement them in concentrated, conviction-based equity portfolios.
The strategy applies a systematic, bottom-up stock selection process that combines extensive proprietary ESG research with rigorous fundamental analysis. The result is a concentrated portfolio of attractively valued, sustain-able companies, diversified across sectors.
Sustainable universe — The starting universe excludes companies with a low sustainability profile and/or a negative environmental impact.
Idea generation & investment recommendation — Structured bottom-up, fundamental due diligence and full integration between equity and sustainability analysts, with a focus on the most material sustainability factors to determine which stocks will be included in the portfolio.
Portfolio construction — The Portfolio Manager's decisions create a high- conviction portfolio of companies with attractive valuations, sound economic fundamentals and strong sustainability performance, thereby optimizing the risk/return profile.
The Sustainable European Equities strategy is managed by two seasoned portfolio managers who form part of the European Equities team based in Zurich. The portfolio managers are supported by dedicated equity analysts and further sustainability analysts from the Sustainability Investing research team. The portfolio managers also have access to Robeco’s and RobecoSAM’s investment teams.
